About Basiltops Pesto
Basiltops Pesto first began as a small coastal greenhouse nursery in Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Encinitas, CA, growing organic, sweet Italian basil hydroponically for local farmers markets in Southern California in 1995. After one particularly abundant summer, there was so much basil, we didn’t know what to do with it, so with encouragement from farmers market customers, the very first “seed to sauce” pesto was created, Pesto Perfectto! We now have a variety of pestos including dairy-free, nut-free and spicy!
Basiltops Pesto is made from locally grown organic sweet Italian basil. Our basil is meticulously picked and defoliated by hand to ensure that every leaf is “perfectto”. We use 100% pure olive oil, lactose-free Pecorino Romano cheese and sea salt imported from Italy. The pesto comes in a easy to use, airtight pouch that has a refrigerated shelf-life up to 6 months, even after opening. We also use fresh California Garlic and Walnuts. We don’t use any fillers or extenders and no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives (*except the soybean oil in our lemon-lime marinade).
Basiltops Pesto is concentrated and a little goes a long way. Each 8 oz package can be used on 2 to 2 1/2 lbs of pasta. In addition to pasta, the versatility of our pesto stretches beyond the world of bread, rice, pasta and potatoes, but is great on any type of meat, vegetable, grain, tofu or as a condiment to enhance the flavor on sandwiches, wraps, eggs, soups, meatloaf, stews, casseroles and salads. Basiltops Pesto is more than just a sauce! As a salad dressing, simply mix a little balsamic vinegar with pesto and voila!
